1: Putting in new mulch? If your existing mulch is 2 years old or older, it’s time to remove the old mulch. Compacting mulch will attract and feed many pests including ants and termites. Try not to mulch against your foundation. Using stone against the foundation will reduce pest activity.

2: Trim back foliage. If you have excessive leaf debris or growing floiage abutting your home it’s time to remove or cut back. Branches touching your house provide crawling insects access to you home. We recommend 18 inches of clearance between your home and any vegitation.

3: Standing water, any standing water sources in your yard should be emptied where ever possible. Many insect breed in these areas including mosquitoes. Reducing breeding areas will reduce populations. Common things to look for would be bird baths, old tires, buckets and tarps. Anything where water gathers and pools up is a potential breeding area.

4: Bird feeders provide a food source for many insects and rodents. If you must have them, keep them a good distance from your home.
